"Butterflight"

Both butterflies have "hatched" and one has flown free. This is how my Dad described the first one to my Mom in an email (she is on a short trip):

"Our beautiful butterfly found her way out of Simba's funhouse immediately when it was opened at 12:50 on a sunny afternoon. She soared on a light breeze above the deck with just a few flutters of her wings and remained in sight for only a moment or two.."

The second one emerged during the afternoon and was able to fly away in the evening.
Correction: it spent the night in the funhouse with the flap open, clinging to its twig. Dad left the funhouse open for it to fly away when things got a bit warmer.

Dad has taken some video and some pictures, but Mom is the one who does my blogging work for me and knows how to upload pictures and stuff. So we will be hoping to post something for you to see on Sunday.

  7. Ooooh! I cannot wait to see the pictures! The butterfly kit I had said you can put slices of oranges in the bottom for them to eat/drink.

  8. Daisy: that would have been a good idea, for Dad to have put slices of orange on the funhouse for them. Then he could have kept them around for longer. Anyway, they are off and gone, now. But maybe next summer, we can check our parsley carefully for caterpillars and do this again. It was really exciting for all of us.

  12. Cool, cool, cool!! We love butterflies!! We can't wait to see what hatched!! When our Mom was a kid, she would find caterpillars and would keep them in a jar until they made a cocoon then they would hatch into butterflies and the whole family (all 9 of them!) would be running all around the house trying to catch the poor, beautiful creature so that it could go outside and be free!! Mom said it is fun to watch them 'hatch' because they are all wet and wrinkly when they come out and slowly they open their wings to their full size and then they have to let them dry. Cool, cool, cool!! Can't wait to see your Dad's videos!!! Purrs, Lautrec and Tiny
