Thursday in the Garden with Simba and Audrey
::3 Paw taps::
First of all, I just want to say I hope that Jonesie, the founder of the Society of Feline Gardeners, is feeling better from her horrible encounter and will be out in her garden today.
There are many plants to check out on our deck, but one of the favorites is, of course, the catnip. Mom caught sight of an introoder kitty early one morning checking it out too but he ran off very fast.
Simba is giving it a really good sniff here.
But now for a surprise: look at the amazing Moth who visited our kitchen window today: here it is seen from the inside
And this is what it looks like from outside.
It is large, about 3 inches across. It seems to be a Luna Moth. We have never ever seen one before and Mom and Dad are quite amazed by it.
OH, and finally, as you can see in the picture of Audrey, we got her a collar of her own, and got her license from the town: she is number 018 (if you remember, Simba is 007). Mom says most of the humans in town must be keeping their kitties a secret because there cannot possibly only be 16 kitties other than us who live here.

Mouse Tales on Tuesday
Mom and Dad have a Mac laptop computer but Dad prefers to use a wireless mouse instead of the trackpad, so on the desk next to the computer is a spot where the mouse stays. Last night Dad went to use the computer and he said "where's the mouse?" Now Mom thought he meant Audrey's small mouse with the leather tail, like the one that ended up in the toilet. So she looked in the cardboard box where they toss the current cat toys, which was on the floor near Dad's feet. I guess somebody had been playing with more than one mouse.

Easy Sunday
Dad suggested yesterday that we should have done a post titled Sweltering Saturday. Mom said the topic of the heat had been overworked, and would be hard to use for Sunday because the temperature was finally supposed to start going down. Saturday's high was about 99-100F (with those numbers I shouldn't have to put the F in!) whereas Sunday's predicted to have a high of 92. Like a fresh spring day by comparison. So we will call it Not So Sweltering Sunday. Here's how we plan to spend it:
I guess I did do a post on the topic of the heat after all!

Photo Hunt - Patch
Audrey and I both have white patches on our throats and tummies. Because Audrey is less floofy than me, hers are more defined: this photo is from Christmastime when she was still living with her former Mom.
Here are her tummy patches:
And 'cause it is MY blog, here is a pretty good view of my throat patch from last winter:

Funhouse Friday
The past few days have been too hot for us to be out on the deck, but about a week ago, Mom got these pics of us, separately, doing the same thing, hanging out paws over the entryway to the Feline Funhouse. Neither one of us was moving around too much, due to the harnesses. I don't like it too much if Audrey is in the Funhouse with me, so we often take turns.

Gardening Thursday and 500th Post
Kitties, this is my 500th post! Here's a demo of how excited I am about it. Maybe if a bunch of you came over and we could race around and go crazy with fresh nip I would get more into the feel of a celebration.

On to gardening!
The weather is hot here (as in much of the USA) which is de-energizing for kitties and humans alike. But the plants seem to like it! So long as Dad is diligent with his watering, because we have not had rain in a while.
This is what our lettuce leaves look like. Mom says they will eat some tonight.
But the basil is being very slow for some reason.
Oregano and Parsley started as plants from the garden center, not as seeds, and are growing well.
And the catnip plant is spreading all over.
Happy Thursday to all and I hope you are not having uncomfortably hot or cold weather.

Cat Necklace Prize
Recently I was selected as the winner of an amazing prize on the Cat Wisdom 101 blog. It is a necklace made by the very very talented Wendy Christensen. Here is a picture of the necklace that we received in the mail on Saturday (really, it is too big for me to wear, so I had to give it to Mom):
The necklace is called "Purrs 'n Roses" because it has three roses on it (the large red one, and two silver ones in the clasps on the sides), and because it has Purrrr spelled out using, of all things, computer keys! You know, that is very appropriate for us, because we are always walking across the computer keyboard when Mom is blogging!
You can see more of Wendy's unique jewelry in her Etsy Shop: Handmade Cat Jewelry for Cat Lovers (http://www.etsy.com/shop/wendycats#).
Thank you very much, Layla and Wendy!

Manly(?) Monday
Just "hanging out" on the Ess. I only did this postion once, but Mom managed to catch a picture. Audrey gives the Ess quite a workout, especially playing with the dangly toy.
Just going to laze round in the semihots today. We are quite fortunate that our high will only be about 90F today. So many kitties in the midwest and even Canada are really suffering.

Don't Mess with Your Kitty
Our Australian friend Mr Puddy has challenged kitties everywhere to come up with an example of something we have done that shows that it is not a good idea to mess with your kitty. Our exhibit is thanks to Audrey last night, and it demonstrates what can happen if the humans are too lazy to PLAY with the kitties and make them play on their own.

Thursday in the Garden with Simba and Audrey
::3 Paw Taps::
Not much has changed with our garden plants in a week, except the lettuce and basil have grown quite a bit. I will show you the progress on them next week. What has been happening outside around here this past week is HOUSE WASHING! We have had such a lot of rain this spring and summer, and we have so much shade, the house shingles had gotten some mildew on them. So out came the ladders and power washers and special house washing solutions and everything. Usually Audrey is made to wear her harness on the deck, but one day Dad and Mom let her out there without it (and watched her closely). So she wasn't as boneless and could explore a bit. We both checked out the ladders and the plants that had been moved. Here are a couple of video clips (yes, I am a bit peeved that Audrey gets much more air time than me!). The camera has magnified the bird sounds, but we do have plenty of birds around at the feeders.

Monday Confessions
It really wasn't HALF the night that we kept the folks up Saturday night, but for some crazy reason, Simba decided at about 3:30 am that he wanted to go INTO the kitchen where Audrey was sleeping in her bed. Mom was lying on the couch watching a little quiet tv the way she often does if she wakes up early, because it usually puts her back to sleep quickly. Simba scratched and scratched on the door, so woke Audrey, who started to cry. Mom opened the door so everybody could go through it in either direction, but refused to give any food. So for the following 2 hours we prevented her dozing off again by both trying to "sleep" with her on the couch. Simba did not like Audrey snuggling with mom, Audrey did not stay still for long, constantly jumping up onto the couch and then down, mewing and poking at Mom, making her itchy, etc. Finally Mom dozed off, Dad got up and fed us around 6:00, then HE went back to sleep!! It was definitely discombobulated. So we slept a lot of the morning ourselves.
We did enjoy going on the deck once we surfaced, though. It was a nice day here.

Funhouse Time
First of all, thanks so much to Sammy, Andy and Shelly's Mom for the new Header! We wanted to get Audrey represented.
The Feline Funhouse is more fun this year than in the past. Simba will go straight into it when he goes on the deck if the small tables are in there creating a shady area.

Audrey is also enjoying it, and doesn't seem to mind being zipped in for safety. Mom and Dad still want to be sure Audrey doesn't escape into the garden, because she is unfamiliar with where they live and has never had an "outside" before, because her first Mom lived in apartments.
After a while, though, a girl can get ready to take a nap!

Thursday in the Garden with Simba and Audrey
::3 Paw Taps::
It is a great gardening day today. Our weather is sunny and hot: supposed to reach about 90 F today! In the late morning, Mom and Dad said we could both go on the deck. Simba went right out:
For those new to the blog,"The Garden" for us is mostly the deck, since that is where the humans plant new stuff. The big garden is mostly trees and shrubs which don't change except for during shrub blooming seasons. Our impatiens got started late, what with weddings and such, but they are looking pretty nice now. There are three boxes of multicolored impatiens.
The catnip plant has bushed out and even has some flowers now. Time to picks some, Mom!
There are two Swedish Ivy plants - they just grow so prolifically and look so nice and green! This one is hung below a tube hummingbird feeder.
Here is a closeup of the feeder: yes, we do have some hummingbird visitors, or at least one, anyway.
This hanging pot of impatiens was actually started at the end of last summer, by taking cuttings from the plants they had then, before they were eaten by the deer for snacks before the winter. The cuttings stayed alive and blooming inside through the winter and now are growing lots in the warm weather. There is a second hummer feeder above that plant.
Just to show you that Audrey did finally waddle her way through the door, onto the deck!!
