Thursday in the Garden with Simba
My little deck garden is beginning to take shape. Here I am checking out how my catnip plant is growing. Next to it is my cat grass. Having the plants on the deck means I can check out my plants every day when I go out there. Dad has plans to help me add more plants, so by the summer there will be lots of things growing on my deck.
Added to say in response to some comments: Sometimes I do get extremely loving with the catnip, rubbing my chin and cheeks on the pot for ages, and licking the leaves, and often I eat the catgrass, but other times I just check it all out.
Award and a Promised Post
A few days ago, Herman gave me the You Rock Award. Thank you so much, Herman. Dear Herman has not been doing so well, so if you want to go over and send some purrs his way, that would be nice.
Since Thursday is Gardening Day for the Society of Feline Gardeners, I would like to pass the award onto 4 gardening cats (really 6) that I know. As far as the rest of my friends are concerned, I know quite a few have the award already, however, please consider yourselves nominated.
The gardeners:
Later in the day I will put up my gardening post, when Mom gets back to the other computer. However the other gardeners mentioned above put me to shame with their marvelous multiple-photo posts about gardening. And that is why I think they deserve the award.

Manly Monday
No, not ME, silly. Mom spotted this male turkey in our back yard the other day. He was strutting and displaying for a long time. When she showed Dad, he said there must be a female nearby, and so they peered around, and saw the gal shown here:
Definitely the hormones are surging for those male turkeys these days. We also later saw a whole group of about 10 in another part of our town, and the males all were displaying their tail feathers in the same way, which is quite unusual. (we are kind of over-run with turkeys for some reason!)
Goodluck, fella. I hope she chooses you.

Friday Post for the Earth
I didn't post about Earth Day yesterday, so today I wanted to make a pitch for people to recycle their catfood cans. By recycling a year's worth of cans, you can picture the size of the pile of aluminum that would make. Apparently people are more likely to recycle soft drink cans than petfood cans, perhaps because of needing to rinse them out. My Mom sets mine in the sink with a bit of water and then rinses it out after washing the rest of the dishes. She is going to try harder to recycle ALL the lids from now on.

In the Garden on Thursday
I see Dad needs to rake out this bed around the shrubs. Mom likes things not to look too "wild". Dad probably figures the leaves make good mulch.
I did get a new catnip plant on the deck, and some herbs for Mom for me to look after. I don't have a pic to show yet, so you will just have to believe me. I will try for a picture next week.

Tummy Tuesday
Sorry for the delay in posting. Mom uses her allergies as an excuse not to blog - I don't see the connection, unless it is that she doesn't like it for the nose-leaky stuff to drip in the keyboard.
Here for your viewing pleasure is my floofy tummy - just remember, I don't actually like anybody to touch it, so if you have plans to snorgle your face into it, you will probably end up with a bitey!

Subdued on Saturday
When Mom wants to put a stop to my desires to hop over the "fence" and get off the deck, she puts my green harness on. I HATE it! It makes me walk in a funny way, and I mostly do my best to lie in one place and not move around much. Which is Mom's reason for putting it on, of course! She wonders whether it pulls a bit on my tummy fur, and that is why I behave like that when it is on.
Another reason for being subdued today is that it is a bit rainy, and cloudy and cool, which makes a kitty (and the humans!) want to curl up somewhere warm for a nap. Mom says she is subdued too because she had to take her allergy pills because of all the flowering trees.
Happy weekend, everybuddy!

In the Garden on Thursday with Simba
I am considering joining the Society of Feline Gardeners, along with other kitties like Jonesie and Alfie Marshall. However, since I don't get to go in the garden that often, I thought it would be better to wait until we have a bunch of plants on my deck. Dad says he will plant catnip and impatiens, and maybe some other things.
BUT, I did get to do some exploring last week, and I was checking out the yew bushes. This past winter, the whitetail deer who visited our garden to eat the acorns also tucked into the yew bushes. OMC, they have really chewed back some of them almost to the "bone"! Dad says he hopes they grown back better than ever, but for now they look a lot bare. That is one of the yews behind me.

Garden Work
Mom let me do a little 'splorin close to the house one day last week. I was especially interested in the smells on this pine tree. Looks like the Dad has some trimming to do, so I told him so. Without my help, I am sure he would have never noticed it by himself.
Mom thinks I have also learned that it is hard for her to catch me to bring me inside if I get in under this prickly tree. She's right!

Photo Hunt - Vertical
This is the first time I have done Photo Hunters, but when I saw the theme today was Vertical, I remembered this photo of me standing vertically at the back door one day last summer, wanting Mom and Dad to let me join them on the deck. I think I posted it, or a similar one, many months ago, but it really suits the theme for today.

Escape Artist
One of the advantages/disadvantages (depending on whether it is me or Mom and Dad) of getting to go out on my deck is that I can't help myself getting the urge to go out into the "greater world". I will be good, good, good for quite a while and then I will suddenly jump over the screening that goes across the stairs and out into the garden. They always come after me and let me know that it is Not Allowed to do that, and "encourage" me to go back to the deck, where they reward me with some treats. (What they haven't worked out is that I escape when I get an urge to have some treats!). In this picture I am on the outside, waiting to be let back in again.
Wednesday answers
The answers to yesterday's quiz are
1) fur on forehead
2) right back paw
3) ear
4) tail tip.
Good guessing and recognizing!
Sorry the pictures were so hard to see. Mom hoped blogger would post them larger.

Name That Body Part
In keeping with the suggestion by Cindy that I can keep working the same photo from yesterday some more, here are four body parts extracted from that picture. Can you identify them all? In the comments, list your answers going from top to bottom.

More of the Same Monday
You may say it looks like I never moved since yesterday. Well, that is practically true. I did come in overnight. Actually, to be perfectly honest, this is the same picture as yesterday, just not cropped, so you can see how I have my shade-forming tables arranged. I spent most of today napping in the exact same spot. It's hard to beat.

Starting out Right on Saturday
As I told you yesterday I expect to spend lots of time on my deck this weekend. I was actually out there by 8 am this morning! I am having to put up with having my harness on some of the time, so it is not PERFECT, but pretty good! Happy Saturday!

Fine Good Friday
Finally some sunshine and good decktime for me today. Yesterday was also a good weather day, but I didn't get out till late in the day. Now that I realize the weather is warming up, the first thing I do when Mom or Dad comes through the door is to run for the back door and meow to be allowed out. Because I need supervision, sometimes I have to wait, which is very frustrating.
I am expecting LOTS of deck time for Easter weekend. Mom and Dad will just have to plan accordingly.
