Trick or Treat!

Mom managed to get a virtual hat and mask on me for Halloween. Have lots of fun! I am going to go to a bunch of Halloween parties! See you there.

  4. Virtual masks are the ONLY kind of masks humans should be allowed to put on kitties! And even that should only be with the kitty's approval. Happy Halloween!

  8. There is a link here about feline vaccination protocol:

    http://www.cfa.org/articles/health/vaccination-guidelines.html

If you scroll down the page, you'll see a table that lists which are recommended every three years (include rabies) and which are recommended annually. Also where they should be administered.

There are other links; most of my cat health links are on my office computer, and my co-worker has (or did have) a number of links too. But if you Google "feline vaccination protocol" you'll get lots of links, with varying information.

However, Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine also recommends no more than 3 years for many vaccines, including rabies:

    http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/vaccbr.html

If my cats were outdoor cats, I would have them up-to-date, but as they are indoor, I choose not to. And senior cats (over 10, I think) shouldn't be vaccinated at all, I believe. I would have to hunt for that info, though.

I also think there can be a big discrepancy between what vets tell clients and what other people will tell you, based on their own experiences (i.e. getting cancer because of the vaccines). I can think of at least one cat in the CB who has cancer because of the vaccinations (Oscar, in Australia, if memory serves).

I DO believe in vaccinating kittens -- the usual two rounds of vaccinations that vets give here in Canada. And vaccinating high-risk animals.
