Thursday in the Garden with Simba

It gives my Dad an enormous sense of satisfaction to be able to grow vegetables. Many many many years ago (before my fur mother was even a gleam in HER mother's eye) they lived in a house that had a sunny back yard, and he was able to grow all variety of good things to eat, especially tomatoes. When he chose the current house, he fell in love with the big trees and shady yard. But it is not good for growing tomatoes and other veggies.

Not to be defeated, even though he has had very minimal success here in the past, this year he planted two cherry tomato plants in big pots on our deck. The pots get moved around somewhat to try to maximize the sun they get, but it is still only a few hours of full sun, the rest of the day being dappled shade or total shade.

So I wanted to show you the bigger of the two plants, and let you see that there ARE some flowers on it, which means hopefully some tomatoes will follow. It is very important for me to snoopervise this plant well, because I really do want my Dad to experience the great joy of eating some home-grown tomatoes.

  10. Dear Simba, tell your Dad that my Mom has some tomatoes too, they were supposed to be cherry tomatoes but they are about 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter! Tomatoes on steroids! And her zinnias and sunflowers are doing well too. Purrs and drooly kissies to you all, Audrey
