Feeding the Feathers

My Dad has a soft spot for the feathered creatures and in the snowy weather he throws seed on top of the snow on our deck, as well as filling two feeders with food for them. This pretty little female cardinal came by the other morning for a snack. We even had a hawk swoop past the other day! We think it was hopeful of catching one of the small birds. I enjoy watching the little birds on the deck, but after a while I get sleepy from it and have to nap.
Stay warm, my Northern friends!

  1. Oooh, pawsome kitty TV! What a tasty snack...pretty bird this is! A cardinal? It looks like a cardinal with the tuft and beak, but the mom usually sees the males in their red splendour. So we're not sure if it's a cardinal or not!

  2. Nice bird channel! It's good to help our feathered friends, even if they leave poops behind.

  5. Wonder where her husband was? Not far away, we're sure. We love Cardinals. They are the state bird of Mom's home state, Indiana.

  8. Our mum doesn't feed the birdies Simba cos she is frightened that we will go hunting and bring a birdie home for for tea - and in our eagerness to show hospitality somehow maim it. She loves to see birdies but has a phobia about touching them cos she doesn't like them fluttering. On the other paw we would be delighted to hold them for her!

  10. We've been feeding the bidies here, too...and guess what!? Yesterday a hawk came down and got a PIGEON! We saw it all! It was verreh exciting, so much so, we had to take naps afterwards, just like you.

  11. Oh, my about the hawk getting the pigeon, Katnip Kats. We have a feeling the hawk in our yard was going for the doves. I guess they don't want to waste their efforts on small, bony birds. Also the doves sit in a row along a tree branch, just looking to be picked off. However we have not actually ever seen a hawk be successful. We kind of side with the doves, but are excited to see the hawk too.

  12. We have a soft spot for the fev-vers too. It is called our tummies. Mum feeds them and it makes us chitter at them. She tells us we mustn't catch them, so we don't. Not when she is watching anyway.

  14. Our neighbor and my Mom feed the birds. We've seen big black birds probably watching the doves.
I talked to the doves today, but they ignored me.

  16. How cool is that? We never see cardinals here! And my mom's been so remiss about the feeders that even though she finally filled them yesterday, no one has come to visit yet. You're lucky to have someone to pay attention to things like that for you!
