Thursday in Our Garden

So we recently showed you the Black Swallowtail Mama Butterfly hanging out near our parsley.   They like parsley, carrot tops and dill.

Behold the "babies":

(Dad brought the parsley plant onto the upper deck).  Here is the full plant.

Here is a BIG guy!

Not everybody hatched at the same time.  This fella is smaller.

Here is an even smaller one.

Dad's finger for comparison.

A year ago we had quite a few like this but they consumed the parsley before they were all fully grown. Then came the hurricane and ..................
We are sort of hoping the birds pick off just enough of them that the others have enough parsley to get to the chrysallis stage.

AND,  our tomatoes are yielding real, edible fruits:  today Dad picked these:

  3. We are thinking about getting a parsley plant or two for our butterflies. Do you think its too late in the season? Thanks for the great idea, we wouldn't have thought of it without you.

  4. Paws crossed that some of these guys make it! That is awesome that your humans grow plants just for them.

  5. We hope they turn into lovely butterflies too! We had parsley last year in our garden, but no caterpillars on them.

  11. Lovely tomaters!! Mine are still small, and green. Will be several weeks at best before they look like yours. I think it's nice that you share your parsley with the cattypillars.

  17. Oh we totally can identify with the caterpillar devouring the parsley crop concept! (and the dill, and ...!)
We hope you both can share your herbs this year! Hopefully there's enough for caterpillar and human alike!

Oh and thank you sooo much for letting us know we had a messed up rafflecopter widget. We fixed it so you can go back and click on the "I commented" button now! (So sorry for the inconvenience!)

  18. Simba, My good ManCat! I cannot thank you enough for providing the purrfect link for my Lazy, Incompetent Human to order me a supply of my preferred smousies! They are the EXACT kind I love! They are small and light and I can get a claw in and toss those little suckers all the way across the room and chase them for hours! You're the BEST, Buddy!!! I made her order them right away so soon I should have a nice little crowd of them!
