We told you yesterday that Dad had seen a butterfly near the parsley. Well, today he managed to get a picture. Looks like she may be planning to lay eggs on the mint plant which is a bit confused, because what she really should do it lay them on the parsley, which is right adjacent to the mint. We don't think these kind of caterpillars eat mint (they are black swallowtails.). They do very well on parsley - a couple of years ago they completely stripped our parsley plant, unfortunately before they were fully grown. But the year before we had several that formed the chrysalises and then hatched back into butterflies.
Maybe the caterpillers will migrate "next door"? We hope so!
ReplyDeleteOH may they do that agai! I can't wait!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful. But we hope there are no caterpillars near any catnip!
ReplyDeleteConfused or not, she's a VERY PRETTY butterfly, for sure!
ReplyDeletePurrs,
Nissy
Such a very pretty butterfly! That'd be cool if it made more butterflies!
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful. Such a good catch with the camera too. Good job.,
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool looking butterfly! If she lays eggs, I hope the caterpillars know where to go for food.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Thank you SO much for posting my BarkWorld badge - and guess what? I WON! Yay!

That is a real beauty!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty flutterby!
ReplyDeleteIn our area they are worried that there hasn't been many flutterbys as in years past and they don't know why. We know we haven't seen hardly any in our yard.
Nice flutterby! We haven't seen any since TW sold the house with the garden.
ReplyDeletemaybe she wants breath that is "minty fresh?" :)
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, the photos are beautiful!
You took some really nice pictures! How nice to have such lovely things growing in your garden such as mint and parsley.
ReplyDeleteThose are some great pictures of the butterfly and what a pretty one at that. That is really a good picture of her. Hope you have a good rest of the week end.
ReplyDeleteAre those flutterbys tasty? They look a little dry and scrawny to me. Say, that was a nice garden tour yesterday and a very nice picture of Audrey. How come she didn't get to come outside when she wanted to? Isn't that the job of a Human to open the door for her? Is the service over there getting sloppy?
ReplyDeletelovely photos,
ReplyDeletewe don't have this kind of butterfly here.
She's beautiful! We hope the caterpillars can find their way to the parsley plant.
ReplyDeleteWe've never seen a butterfly like that before - it's lovely.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Beautiful! We get the monarchs coming through and our mom isn't very good natured about the fact that they strip ALL the dill and ALL the parsley. She thinks POLITE flutterbys would leave at least ONE of each for the poor humans. *sighhh*
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comforting comment on my blog.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! We've never seen one of those before!
ReplyDeleteOoo, that's beautiful! We get the yellow and black Tiger Swallowtails here. We'd love to see one of these visit too someday! Purrs....
ReplyDeleteWe have so many yellow and black swallowtails one neighbor told us our garden was like a Disney movie. We are thinking of putting in some parsley for them next year. We aren't sure if its too late this year.
ReplyDeleteWow - that is one amazing butterfly - we don't get so many blue ones here in NZ.
