Late Gardening Post

Dad decided that even though the impatiens plants in the boxes on the deck were still looking fairly good, considering that it was already November 10th, it was time to recycle them to the compost pile. So he moved a couple from the deck down to the garden. Overnight we had a visit from some deer, who took a fancy to the impatiens "snack" they found:

You can also see how many leaves we have accumulated since Dad cleared them on Saturday.

To give you an idea of what the impatiens plants looked like before being snacked on, this is one of the remaining boxes:

Added for clarification: Just in case any of you think Dad on purpose put the boxes out in a spot where the deer could eat them - how COULD you think that!

  1. Yeah, Simba, a lot of our flowers became deer foods too...

  3. Wow, your flowers have lasted a very long time!!! Our impatients went about a week ago when we had frost. Oh well, I have some beautiful holly with red berries!

You are so lucky to get deer in your garden...any pictures?

  4. That's cool that you let the deer snack on your flowers. We've got a patch of deaded marigolds and basil that we've got to clear out this weekend. But it looks like you've got lots more leaves than we do!

  5. To us city girls it's a miracle to get some deer as visitors. Are they scary?

  6. Although we have deer around here, they don't visit our garden. But my human has seen them on her neighborhood walks. We would love to have them visit and munch on our plants.

  9. Guess the deer had other ideas of how to compost those impatiens! Hope they didn't get your nip though!

  11. Hey there Simba! Our garden has very little left in it. Just some pansies that Mom planted last week. To answer your question about that mechanical feather toy we have, a friend of ours got it at the local flea market. In fact, she purchased three of them for five dollars each, brand new. We like it okay, but we prefer when our Moms actually participate too!
