Fresh Catnip!

Mom and Dad had to make a decision about my catnip plant over the weekend: whether to just leave it outside to the elements for the winter, and hope it could sprout again next spring, or bring it into the house and nurture it. They decided on the latter, or at least to bring it in for a while: if it gets in the way, it may go back outside, mulched with some leaves to help it overwinter.

Dad gave me a single leaf to enjoy (kind of chintzy, wasn't he?). You can interpret the pictures the way you wish.

  2. When we lived in Illinois our nip plant self-seeded...you may have baby nips coming up in your yard next spring! In the meantime, we think you need MORE NIP!

  9. ONE leaf - that is not good. At least your 'nip is nurtured - ours is out in the freezing cold to die. Ă„iti says she will start some growing inside in February. Last year it did self-seed but nothing grows here until May outside.....

  10. Only one leaf? It did seem to sort of do the trick though but hopefully you get more later!

  11. You look kind of sleepy; obviously one leaf is all you needed.

  12. We think you ought to have gotten more leaves too...but that one seems to have been pretty potent!

  13. A single leaf is a little bit chintzy! I only like the dried-up kind of catnip. I do not know why.

  14. I've only ever had dried catnip. Mummy keeps a little bag of it in her dressing gown. Daddy says it looks a bit strange!!! My mummies friend said she is going to bring me some fresh leaves to try soon. You definitely look like you are enjoying them :)

  15. One leaf??? Well we hope you can enjoy your one single solitary lonely leaf.
Mum grew us a nip plant in the garden last year for the first time, and in the winter it died from all the cold and we thought that was the last we would see of it. In the early Spring it started to grow shoots and ended up as a huge plant about 6-8 times bigger than it was originally.

  16. We think it was smart to bring it inside - that way it will stay safe for sure. And we also think you deserved more than one leaf - we think you know that too and were trying to save it as long as possible!

  17. Sounds like Nip Rationing to us...but it would be a very long winter if you ran out, so maybe this way is best...
