Manly Monday

No, not ME, silly. Mom spotted this male turkey in our back yard the other day. He was strutting and displaying for a long time. When she showed Dad, he said there must be a female nearby, and so they peered around, and saw the gal shown here:

Definitely the hormones are surging for those male turkeys these days. We also later saw a whole group of about 10 in another part of our town, and the males all were displaying their tail feathers in the same way, which is quite unusual. (we are kind of over-run with turkeys for some reason!)

Goodluck, fella. I hope she chooses you.

  3. I hope the turkey has good luck, too. I think I might just freak out if I saw a bird that big in my yard. I have given you an award.

  10. Yeah, mum says she has seen lots of turkeys this spring too. Plus our neighbor reported on in her yard.

No mum does not drive racy cars, says she doesn't have enough green papers. She does a lot of directing traffic and checking safety gear.

  17. So THAT's what turkeys look like?! I've never seen a live one. I wish we had some wandering around here - that would make a REALLY great episode of bird TV!
