We remember and honor all those who lost their lives or were injured on, or because of, 9-11-01. We also honor all their loved ones who were left behind, and all the first responders. We will not forget your sacrifice.
During August of 2001 we visited Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty and took a picture of the World Trade Center Twin Towers. Little did we know that less than a month later the towers would be gone. The picture is the only one we have, rather hazy, but here it is. Many of those who were killed were there at work on that day.
Edited to add: We visited the same places a week ago and here is how it looks now, from about the same place. You can try matching up the buildings and see what is new, if you like.
I can't ever forget that day...it is seared into my memory. I was off work and watching GMA. I had the deck door cracked, taking my own breaths of a picture post card blue skied perfect day when Sawyer said there had been an accident..the camera was looking at the towers and even while she expounded on that, I watched as another jet kept coming and coming and coming until it crashed into the other one. That's when they started realizing thiese were not accidents. I stayed rivited to the TV for the entire rest of the 4 days and nights I had off. The worst thing I have witnessed to date..and still a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is quite a picture. We think it is a great picture. It was such a sad day for everyone even if you weren't anywhere close to NY.Thanks for the good memeory.
ReplyDeleteIt had to be a nightmare for anyone that actually saw it happening in person. Seeing it on TV was horrible enough.
ReplyDeleteSuch an awful day. We shall always remember.
ReplyDeleteeerie and hauntingly beautiful. It gave me chills.
ReplyDeleteThat is an eerie picture. Äiti says she will never forget the day it happened either, and even though it was thousands of miles away from her she remembers the news reports vividly. With bowed heads and tipped tails x
ReplyDeleteThe towers were so tall and prominent on the NY skyline. I remember that day and still can't believe people did this horrific thing to us. I'll never understand but I'll also never forget.
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone ever forget that dreadful day.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
We remember, and hope for a better future.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to see the towers just a short while before they were destroyed....
ReplyDeletePurrring for a more peaceful future.

A lovely juxtaposition. We saw the towers only from a different angle once. To see the two skylines now is very moving-
ReplyDeleteIt was an awful day for my human... she loved the Twin Towers...
ReplyDeleteMom watched it unfold on tv. Still seems surreal. Purring fur peace.
ReplyDeleteWow, those photos say it all, Simba. It was a very sad...and scary time. We will never forget...
ReplyDeleteHi Simba. I've been reading your comments on other blogs about your Mom's experience on 9/11. The building my Pop worked in then and still works in is the black building on the far right w/the rounded building in front of part of it. He was too close on that day 10 years ago.
ReplyDeleteThe Human will never forget that day. I was not borned yet, though.
ReplyDeleteThese are haunting pictures.
Purrs to all.
Our mom told us ... and we purred for the loss of the hoomans and animals.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your personal pics. Our mom moved from Canada to NY five weeks before 9/11. We blogged about the 9/11 blessing of the animals today that you might enjoy.
