Feeling Fine Friday

Kitties, I wanted to update you on how I am doing with my hyperthyroidism.      I am doing GREAT!   I take my pills without fuss twice a day and I have gained weight and I am just plain feeling good.     Mom and Dad really hope I continue to do well with this medicine.     One of the biggest changes Mom notices is how much nicer my fur is than when my T4 levels were high.   It made my fur kind of dusky and dull looking - now it feels soft and is back to its pretty pale color.

Here I am snuggling with Dad while he works on the computer.

One possible problem, though, is that the new refill on my prescription the vet gave us bigger pills - same dose, but a different manufacturer.     The humans had been thinking about ordering my pills online to save some money, but held off, feeling the vet would be most reliable - now they would like to find a source of the smaller pills.   Do any of your parents have experience with any of the online vet pharmacies and their reputability?   They don't want to use a bad one!    They did find out the manufacturer of the first pills the vet gave us, but now they have switched over.  Maybe they will switch back? We don't know.  But they sure don't want me to discover those bigger pills in my pill pockets!

  1. Your fur looks BEAUTIFUL! One sure sign of a healthy kitty is a soft, lush coat. At least, that's what the peeps say.

I have no experience with on-line pharmacies myself. The peeps tried to order some some stuff for my brother Seville on-line but no one would would ship this particular medicine to Canada. That was all Canada's fault, I'm afraid, so that won't get in your way.

But what the peeps did get locally - the next best thing - well... those pills are HUGE. Sivvers takes 'em like a real trouper though. He says it's no big deal. I think I would think otherwise.

  2. I don't know what type of tablet you have but have always broken them down with the back of a spoon and slipped the grounds into into a strongish tasting wet cat food (fish seems the best). I always dosed when they were hungry.

  3. We're glad you're doing so well and will purr that that continues!

No experience with on-line meds, either, though.

  4. You do look very beautiful and happy Audrey! That's too bad that your pills from the vet are now bigger. Are they something that a human pharmacy may have so that you can get them somewhere else locally (and usually less expensive than the vet)? Maybe they can be split with a pill splitter so you get two pill pockets each time! :)

  6. Please ask the vet to recant on using a different manufacturer. They probably got them cheper than the small ones (which Admiral used too) Tell them that you don't want to mess up a good thing with Audrey taking the pills so well right now.

The other thing I would have said is what Beaded Tail said. Give Audrey 2 pill pockets. I did that with Admiral just to keep her interest up. I marked one with my thumb nail into an X so I would know which pill pocket she ate first, the loaded one or the plain one. She loved getting two pill pockets.

MY vet makes it so hard to get a prescripton to take home and then use that I (and most) give up. That's money out of their pocket after all.

Once they made a mistake and gave me 3 methemizole gel pens for like 28.00. That was what THEY paid for them I found, and the next time it was 60 some dollars.

    Just sayin'.

Audrey you are beautiful. I love your pale beautiful Palimono coloring.

  7. We're so glad to hear that you are feeling better. Unfortunately HH doesn't have any experience with online drug stores, so we don't know about the size of the pills.

    Have a great weekend.

  8. I have had a little experience with online pharmacies and I don't recommend it. I used to get Holly's thyroid pills at WalMart. The vet gave me a prescription and they were not big at all. Her fur looked all rough too when we first diagnosed her. It was much cheaper that way.
It is worth a try anyway.
Glad Audrey is going so much better. That is great news.

  11. You are looking lovely, Audrey, and we're so glad you're feeling well!

We hope you can get hold of the smaller pills. No point in upsetting a good thing.

  12. Tell the vet that you need the other pill. They need feedback from the patients and might order for you.

So happy to hear he is feeling better. That's the first thing we noticed about my thyroid meds, my fur got nice again.

    Have a super weekend! XOXO

  13. Please do ask for them again..they CAN do it. It's a profit margin issue with them.

Please let me kow about the 2 pill pockets. OH! I kept things fresh for Admiral by her using the salmon flavored ones and then the chicken flavored ones. She HATED the pea favored ones or whatever tragic offering that was. Duck! Duck! That's what it was. She invited me to eat them myself!!!

Also, never buy pill pockets from the Vet office. They charge an arm and a leg or two plus insist they be in your will. I bought a bag there all unknowingly for 12 dollars! In the pet store it was 6 dollars and change. Be sure you keeo extra air out of the bags too. My girl would not eat them after a week and a half because to her, they were stale. I learned to get the air out before re-sealing AND because Admiral was so little and eating so little, I even put the pill pocket bag into a sealed baggie.

  14. Audrey, we're so glad you are doing so well! We hope you continue to feel and look good! Not that we thought you ever looked bad.

The mom has used an online pet pharmacy...vetrxrx.com. They are located in Houston and the mom has never had an issue with them. They can make the medicine into flavored treats or a flavored liquid. And they ship really fast...like overnight! Zoey takes medicine for her constipation problem and the mom gets it from a local human pharmacy. The pharmacist compounds the medicine into a flavored liquid. Recently when that pharmacy had a problem getting the medicine, our v-e-t had to order it for the mom and they used an online pharmacy called Wedgewood. They also were very good. They are located in NJ.

  15. We bought felimozole (or something like that for Fin from Vetdepot and had no trouble. It was a lot less expensive than the vet's office. Daisy the curly cat's mom works at petmeds I think too.

  16. Audrey, we are so happy you are doing so well! It helps that you are good about your pills. Maui gets a pill every day and he's a champ at being pilled.

Mommy has ordered from a couple of Canadian pharmacies; delivery takes a while (14-20 days) but the price was about 40% of what the vet charged. She's also used PetMeds.

  18. Hi Audrey! Great to see you!!

We don't know if these have been suggested yet... You could ask your vet if they will order from the old manufacturer. If not, try your local vet hospitals. If your vet will give you a prescription, any vet hospital with a pharmacy should be able to fill the script.

We haven't used them personally, but there's also 1800petmeds. Maybe someone else will have something to say about them.

We hope you can find the smaller pills! If not, maybe your humans can cut them in half for you and give you two treats. ;)
