Photo Hunt -Awesome

This week's Photo Hunt theme is Awesome.

About 5 weeks ago, the humans visited Manhattan and went to the National September 11 Memorial.    This opened last Fall and a museum adjacent to the Memorial is still being completed.   You can see it in the background of this first picture.

The whole place filled both Mom and Dad with awe.    The water streams down all four sides of the square and disappears completely down the hole in the middle.   You cannot see the bottom of the hole at all and it is as if it never ends. The names of all those who died in the 2001 and also the 1993 attacks are engraved in the bronze surrounds.  There are two pools, one for each of the twin World Trade Center towers.

Right next to the Memorial the Freedom Tower is under construction.   This is how far they have gotten with building it now.

If you are going to be in New York and want to visit, you should go online quite a bit ahead of time and reserve tickets.   Weekdays are easier to get than weekends.    There is no charge but you have to have a ticket issued in your own name.  Only a few tickets are given out at the site each day.     Here is the website:  http://www.911memorial.org/.     Or if you would just be interested in learning more about the Memorial you can go here.

  1. I know it has been over 10 years, but my human is still not ready to go down there. I don't know if she'll ever get over that - heck, she still misses the cat before me too and she's been gone almost as long.

  3. Sparkle: Mom had felt she wasn't ready to go there either but it was very uplifting to visit. Perhaps it had to do with the sunny day and the brightness of everything on that day, but it was OK and she felt like they were honoring those who died by going.

  12. That is awesome. Mommy imagines it's a lot like she felt at the Arizona memorial in Pearl Harbor.
