ManCat Monday

Here's a photo taken of me on Sunday for posting for ManCat Monday.      Quite mancatly if I do say so myself.   It is a little dark because it was already evening.

But what was I looking up at?      A birdie?  A squirrel?   A plane or helicopter (those do go over around here sometimes)?    Kitties, it was a TURKEY gone to roost up in one of our oak trees!      We had been watching a few of them in the yard during the day and come bedtime, this one decided to roost right over the deck!!     Sorry no pictures, it was all Dad could do to get this picture of me looking up and then to move the heck out of the way in case it POOPED!

Pee Ess:  it pooped overnight!  We won't photograph it but you can sort of imagine how much poop a turkey can drop from a tree!   Dad got the hose out!

Update:     After we posted, Mom was able to get some pictures of a female and male turkey in our yard. In the first picture you see the female sitting on our back wall, with the male's brown tail feathers fanned out showing behind her (as well as the neighbors' swing set).

In this second picture, you can see the male strutting his stuff in our yard.  Clearly it is courting season!

  1. Oh yes, definitely looking very manly there Simba. Wow, a turkey in a tree that must be an amazing site. Don't blame your dad for not hanging around though, just in case ...... although, that would have made a great photo too hee he :)xx

  7. We agree with Brian, that is one big bird. Is that someone's turkey?? It doesn't look like a wild turkey. Hope no one decides to have it for dinner. Bet it did leave a huge mess. Have a great day, hopefully with no turkey poo.

  8. That is awesome. Mr & Mrs Turkey come to visit. Are you going to go straight for the kill or wait patiently for all the little turkey snacks to come ? We are very impressed. And we could have coped with the turkey poop pictures - but maybe not before breakfast.
And that was indeed a very manly pose. Yours we mean, Simba - not the showing off Mr Turkey!

  9. Wow, that is amazing that you get turkeys coming around your house! That would never happen here in Los Angeles. I wonder if I could convince my human to move.

  10. Wow, nice birds! If you were thinking dinner, however, give it up. Those guys are big and WILL chase you. We get bunches of them wandering in our yard, too. Early one morning last summer, we had a whole flock (like 50!) of moms and babies. Dad's seem to disappear when chicks appear...

  11. That is a very mancatly pose indeed, Simba!

We don't have wild turkeys here in France, so the most excitement on the bird front is pheasants and partridges. Just not the same size!!!

Simba, we thought we had it good with the pigeons, but you guys have struck flying feline GOLD! Your Dad needs to snag one of those for you and Audrey. No, make that one each! And nevermind the poop.

  22. Good job that turkey didn't poop while you were still looking up!!! We have got a pheasant who roosts in the tree outside our window and he has pooped all over the wood pile. I stalk the pheasants here, but your turkeys look a bit too big for me.
