Garden Item of Interest
::Meowwwwww::
Sorry my secretary has been so lax with getting a post up today. She has been sitting at the computer a lot but seems to spend most of her time looking at stock market stuff. Chill, woman!
Anyhoo, my DAD came running inside and said there was a Black Swallowtail Butterfly out on one of the impatiens pots, and grabbed the camera. These are full size images if you want to click to biggify to see her better. We hope it IS a her, because the impatiens pot is right next to the parsley! Mom and Dad hopes she lays some eggs on the parsley, a favorite food for Black Swallowtail caterpillars.
The humans here really don't eat much parsley, but grow it for the butterflies mostly. Some of my readers from last summer may remember the excitement of us having green and black caterpillars on the parsley, them forming chrysalises and then hatching to give black swallowtail butterflies. Mother Nature appears to be repeating herself.

This is very cool! Of course Derry would be stalking that butterfly, doing his best to catch and crunch it. :-P
ReplyDeleteThat is one cool butterfly and great pics! Hey, maybe Mom should by stock in cat food companies, with all of us it is likely a safe bet!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. We're noticing less butterflies this year in the NYC are this year despite our wild garden. You? Fortunately none of our cats have caught any.
ReplyDeleteCatWisdom: We haven't really been keeping track, though I think you are right.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea parsley attracted butterflies - I must tell my human! She has been busy keeping an eye on the stock market too, but can you believe she has been cool as a cucumber and doing some trading? She is thinking of putting some stop limits on today to protect some of her holdings (if/ when the market dips again, she can buy them back right away for less if she sold at a profit).
ReplyDeleteOh such lovely butterflies! I would like to attack them. I think they are far more interesting than the stock market...
ReplyDeleteI love butterflies! I wish I had the patience to plant flowers to attract them.
