Caterpillar 911
Kitties, the caterpillars ate up all the parsley plant! They were hanging on the very tips of the stems, eating the last few leaves when Mom saw them. They are so voracious. Mom had to rush to the store to get them a "replacement" diet of store -bought flat parsley. They look like they are getting reasonably close to the size for forming a chrysalis, so Dad has set them up in a large tub with a cover and sticks they can use when they want to make a chrysalis. The store-bought parsley has been "planted" in a pot in the tub in some water and will be replenished as needed. There are still 8 of them. They are getting pretty big and chubby. Remember, they may look a bit icky (not many people like caterpillars) but these will be lovely Black Swallowtail butterflies.

Our mom still thinks they look creepy (except she does like green, it's one of her two favourite colours). But it's very cool they will emerge as gorgeous butterflies! And very cool your humans are taking such good care of them, providing them with food and a place to do their caterpillar thing!
ReplyDeleteThose are some hungry caterpillars. They ate all those leaves. Yikes. Glad you got them some more. This is fun following the cycle of the caterpillar. Great pictures.

ReplyDeleteI like caterpillars :-) I think it is very nice that you are going to so much trouble to give them a good environment to become beautiful butterflies!
ReplyDeletePhew! That sounds like a very close call!
ReplyDeletePurrs,

The caterpillars are eating so much we wonder if they will smell like parsley when they become butterflies! We're glad your mom got them more foods since it seems to be going right through them! Get it? MOL!

ReplyDeleteWow, we never knew catepillars ate so much!
ReplyDeleteWell, the Human thinks that those...things...are creatures only a mother could love, but, if you say they're cool, we'll try to understand, MOL!
