Dad enjoys flying his kite when the humans go to the beach. Mom knew she had some pictures somewhere, but she had to hunt a lot through the photos to find these. In the past he has usually used a traditional long tail, but on this day he also tried out a new whirly tail for his big kite. He got this kite over 37 years ago in Nantucket, but it still does well. We have to just believe what Mom says about it because we don't go to the beach.
Mom used lots of zoom to get this picture:
Dad reeling the kite in:
Here is the traditional long fabric tail on the same kite:
The kite looks like fun. We have heard that the beach is like a giant litter box.
ReplyDeletethat is one really cool kite! I guess that your Dad is the type of person if someone tells him to "Go fly a kite" he wouldn't mind :)
ReplyDeleteYou did MUCH better with your Photo Hunt post today than my human did... although I will confess, she did manage to get some air time with ours on her own photo blog.
ReplyDeleteCOOL! We agree with sparkle, especially cuz OUR mommy didn't even TRY. Pfft!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is windy here today - wonder if it's TOO windy for kites...?
Wow, those kites are great...and they sure can fly!!
ReplyDeleteOMC - that's a great kite and looks like a lot of fun to fly.,
ReplyDeleteMommy is amazed!! Her kites never lasted more than a couple of outings...
ReplyDeleteThat kite sure looks like fun!!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! That is a REALLY cool kite!

That sure does look like fun!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's nice. A real live kite. Well maybe not live.
ReplyDeleteWowza--that's some kite all right. The Human's impressed. She is a total loser in the kite-flying department. She won't even try anymore, MOL! What a wuss! Your dad has mad skillz!
ReplyDeleteMy mom is a total loser in kite flying also and like Spitty's mom, she won't even try anymore. I guess she needed someone to give her a few tips on how best to do it. She told me she loves wo watch them fly and if she's able to stop and enjoy watching, she will if she sees one aloft.
ReplyDeleteMom said she enjoys the traditional tail. Your dad's is long! Mom's use to be less so. She's pitiful. xoxo
We are back from our mom's lobotomy! She loves Nantucket too, though flying in is a little scary. She was thinking of you and wondering how everything was going. We are glad you have your power back (not as glad as you were I'm sure). Our relatives all have their power, but one cousin in Princeton is still without water.
ReplyDeleteWe gave you an award if you'd like to pick it up. Purrs!
What great kites - Mum can't fly one to save her life!
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
That's a cool kite and that beach is beautiful too! Our mommy thought of getting a kite to fly on the Oregon coast but it's so windy she'd probably end up in California!
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful kite. Thank you so much for your kind words and virtual hugs and purrs. They mean a lot to me. I am glad that he passed on here, without having to go to the vet. I think it makes it easier for Spyro and Oja to understand why he is gone, too.
ReplyDeleteThose kites are pretty neat. Kind of like birds but not for nomming. Kind of like the metal birds from the airforce base but not loud and scary. They just look pretty and peaceful, I think. purrs
ReplyDeleteLove to see that old Nantucket Kiteman kite flying !!! I started making cotton kites last year. I used some old Kiteman kites as patterns and made some modern improvements. You can check out on facebook Nantucket Kite Works or @ www.nantucketkiteworks.com. Thanks for the cool pix !! What beach is it ?
ReplyDeleteStephen- very interesting about your kites! These pictures were taken on the Gulf Coast in Florida.
