Follow-up

What am I looking at, you ask? It is this sweet young couple in our yard about a week ago. You may recall my post about the male turkey and his attempts to get the attention of the group of female turkeys. Well, it looks as if things worked out for two of them.
Now we no longer see the male, but there is a lone female in our yard quite a lot - she comes for seed scattered from the bird feeder and for water in our bird bath, and Dad thinks she must have a nest nearby. Apparently they have 10-20 babies at a time! That will be one busy Momma!

  2. Wow! Lots of babies. I think thanksgiving might be at your house... Oh wait--I bet your folks are attached aren't they? No turkey this year...

  3. Well, Chey, my folks do feel a little odd eating turkey. But not THAT odd! Turkey bought from the store is kinda depersonalized. Especially the sliced stuff from teh deli counter. And these wild turkeys would be awfully tough to eat, they think.

  4. And I'll bet the daddy is long gone! With that many babies, surely they could spare one for dinner.
