:::Meowww:::
Does everybuddy know that the Great Backyard Bird Count begins tomorrow and goes through the weekend? You can read more about it and how you can participate here.
Yesterday we were out on the deck for a short while and heard a loud noise coming from one of trees, and Dad told us it was a Pileated Woodpecker who had come to visit. Well, he didn't get any new photos (we got some last year of him or a friend of his) but Mom has borrowed a picture from Wikipedia to show you. He is a really BIG birdie!
If you want to learn more, here is the Wikipedia article.
He is a big guy isn't he. What an exciting birdie to watch.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat - it would so fantastic to see one of those. Especially if it began hammering away on the catio.....
ReplyDeleteWe love his red cap!!!
ReplyDeleteThey sure are beautiful birds. We see them every now and then but not often. They really are pretty. And we will read up on the bird count activity.
ReplyDeleteI got Baby Doll about a week and a half ago because her Mom had to go in a home, and they were going to just put her outside and the rescue gal asked me if I would take her as a foster cat. She is a total wreck which I think is partly because of the other cats here even if she is in a room all by herself. Anyway, she is finally getting a tiny bit better.
Oh drat, and we just haven't had that many birds around...maybe five!
ReplyDeleteOh that new word captcha thing is awful and so hard to read...4th try.
Whoa! He's totally cool!
ReplyDeleteWe heard about the bird count taking place, but haven't many around our area at this time of year, either. Well, chickadees, cardinals, crows--the usual. :-)
What a great birdie but we wouldn't like him to give us a peck with that big beak!
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
wow, he is very pretty. Mummy says when she hears the woody woodpeckers tap tapping away in the woods behind our house she knows that spring is on its way. We haven't heard any here yet, but maybe one day soon :)xx
ReplyDeleteMom here: Just as I said,, Brian said too as did you that word captcha thing is HORRIBLE! Is it on MY blog too? It shouldn't be unless they forced everyone to.
ReplyDeleteI went out and got puppy pads and good thing..she leaked thru. Not as bad but it would have been a matter of time. Thank you. xox
I have two pr of Pileated Woodpeckers. One in the forest behind my house ( I really have one) and another set over across the street. I know it's not the same ones as both pairs have been spotted at the same time..once. :-)))

ReplyDeleteHe is very big! Wow! I bet he'd taste good.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a woodpecker! I don't think they come to the big city.
ReplyDeleteThe neighbors used to get a woodpecker that visited their huge birch tree but they had to cut it down due to it being diseased so we don't know where the woodpecker went. They always got our attention!
ReplyDeleteWhoa that is a big bird!
ReplyDeleteWe have a woodpecker with a red head around our wooded area, I wonder if it is the same species?

ReplyDeleteIf we kittehs get busy, there won't be so many to count. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteHe is very handsome! Teddy thinks he would be very tasty.
ReplyDeleteOOOOOOH LUNCH!! ^..^ :))))) one less to be counted ^..^
ReplyDeleteDidja catch any yet? Wait--what? COUNT them, not CATCH them? Really, that's just unnatural.
ReplyDeleteWow !!! That's Cool birdie !!!! and I can see he wear Tuxedo suit : )
ReplyDeletexoxo
He is a big woodpecker. Ours are much smaller, mostly flickers. They really get my attention when they hang upside down on the eaves and make scratchy noises on the windows.

MOWZERS! *doubtful look* we've heard of Vishious Deerz, but this looks like a Vishious Bird to us! We glad we indoors where that beak can't reach!
ReplyDeleteHe's beautiful! Must be a member of the red hat society.
