Wordy Wednesday

Some of my plants are behaving a little oddly this June. This one is called a CHRISTMAS cactus, and this is the first time it has sprouted so many flowers in the summer. I think it is because it was already outside in early May when we had some near-freezing weather. Hard to imagine now with all the hot weather.

Sometimes my Mom thinks that her Mommy and sister in heaven help the Christmas cactuses here to bloom as their special way to be near her. She got this plant in honor of her sister lots of years ago. Maybe it was a special blooming at the time of my brother's wedding.

Tummy Tuesday

We have had some hot weather here in June, though nothing like what some cats have been experiencing. Mom says we have gotten up to about 93 F.

Truth be told, I don't know if this position is because of the heat when the a/c was off, or to catch a few more breezes of a/c when it was on, or just because I was SOooo relaxed. But my pawpawrazzi could not resist snapping a pic of it.

Oh, and just so you know, I HATE to have my belly rubbed, tickled, or brushed.

Wishing it was Sunny Sunday

Our skies are overcast this morning - perhaps it will become more sunny later. So this picture is from Wednesday, when Mom took it to use as part of my gardening post on Thursday, then instead we showed the REAL garden. My impatiens are looking quite pretty, and filling in a little more every day.

Sorta Scary

The other day when Mom and I had our excursion outside, I had a somewhat scary experience, although Mom feels I handled it bravely. Our street is very quiet, but while I was in the front yard, a truck collecting donations came to one of the houses, and as soon as I saw the truck, I went onto the front steps and got close to the front door. I wasn't sure what the truck was planning to do, but I didn't want to take any chance.

Mom didn't have the key to let us in that way, so I had to wait on the landing till the truck left. (this picture is zoomed as it was leaving after turning around - it really was not too close).

Simba in the REAL Garden on Thursday

Mom and I went out on the deck and took a bunch of pictures of the impatiens, herbs, tomato plants etc yesterday, for me to use in my gardening post, and then I managed to escape from the deck, and she let me stay out in the REAL garden for a while under supervision. I did a circuit round the house, checking out all the foundation plants, sniffing all the interesting smells and having a grand time. I do love my deck garden bu t the real garden is the best! So I will save my deck picutres for another post.

All the pachysandra, ilex and holly were looking especially good and healthy as I checked them out carefully.

Wordy Wednesday

Mom has asked if she can borrow my blog again today to post a picture of my brother's two kitties. Since my typing abilities are pretty limited, I really don't have much say in the matter. And since a couple of commenters asked if the newlyweds have/like cats, I did want to say that they most certainly DO! Anyway, here the two of them are having a lovely snuggle nap on the KITCHEN COUNTER (did you read that, Fin?). I guess all the activity surrounding the wedding really tired them out (plus a few humans too). They are nearly 8 years old and were born in a barn on a farm in Tennessee. They got their forever home in Missouri, and then 4 years ago moved back to very close to where they were born.

Now I think of them as my cousins, but really I suppose they are my niece and nephew, if they are my "brother's kids".

Mom promises I can post about myself and my gardening tomorrow.

Wedding Place

One of the reasons I have been a bit scarce this past week is that my human brother was getting married. So Mom and Dad were busy helping them and stuff. Here are a few pics of the lovely spot they had their wedding - it was on a small island in Tennessee, and they had a big white tent, with the ceremony under a natural-looking arbor. These photos were taken the evening before the wedding. On the actual day they did have to deal with a thunderstorm in the early afternoon, but no rain while the wedding ceremony and party were happening.

No pics of the people here, just to protect their privacy. But congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple!

I am glad to have Mom and Dad back, and now maybe I can comment better on my friends' blogs again.

By Myself

Though I have shown you several pictures this summer of me on the deck railing, Mom and Dad had been lifting me up, as I was just not jumping up by myself. Then out of the blue I hopped up on my own. And because my tail was hanging so nicely to the inside, Dad told Mom to get the camera a take picture. He was all excited. Dads can be funny sometimes.

Apologies

I need to apologize that I have not been doing much blog visiting and commenting, but my secretary (Mom) has been kinda too busy to help me much. We will be back to "normal" soon, I hope.

Very Easy Sunday

This is a favorite spot of mine in the winter, but not so common for me to sleep here in the summer. But it is a nice quiet corner, and if I want to, I can see out onto the deck through the sliding doors. I think I like it in winter because Dad throws seed out there for the birds, and they come, as well as squirrels. In the summer, not so much.

Help Fin

Fin, of Housecat Confidential, has lost her secret way up onto the kitchen counters. She is desperate and determined to be able to go up there, and other cats are offering ladders etc. Although mine does not have the wheels she would like, it is quite portable (so long as she can find SOME human to move it around for her, or perhaps she could shove it along) and has nice wide steps and the top step is a bit of a platform, something else she has said she would like.

(I can sometimes stay on the deck for long periods of time, but when I have had enough, I have had enough).

Managing

The fact of the matter is that Floof can be a disadvantage, especially when the weather gets hot. We had some hot-for-us weather this weekend (although nothing like our New Mexico and Arizona friends), and I found my own way to try to cool off, in spite of all my fur.

A front came through and brought cool weather (we even had a tornado warning), so today forecast is much better: almost more like late September!

So we used A/C for about 48 hours and now the windows are open again.

Weekend Chillin'

Rather than doing an Easy Sunday post, how about a whole weekend of chillin' out? Suits me!

Oh, I just realized this picture is good for "outstretched paw" as well!

Update: it is a WEE BIT WARM here today - "chillin' " is a bad choice of word to describe me today. We's HOT and meltin'!

Follow-up

What am I looking at, you ask? It is this sweet young couple in our yard about a week ago. You may recall my post about the male turkey and his attempts to get the attention of the group of female turkeys. Well, it looks as if things worked out for two of them.
Now we no longer see the male, but there is a lone female in our yard quite a lot - she comes for seed scattered from the bird feeder and for water in our bird bath, and Dad thinks she must have a nest nearby. Apparently they have 10-20 babies at a time! That will be one busy Momma!

Thursday in the Garden with Simba

Happy gardening Thursday to all! Everything is growing here from all the nice sunshine and careful snoopervision I am giving it. Dad and I planted 4 boxes of impatiens and they are beginning to fill out a little. Here I am testing the integrity of the pot the catnip is planted in. Behind me the pot contains chives, parsley, rosemary and basil. Mom has already taken some small snips of the herbs and used them in some cooking.

It was also important for me to check the health of the catnip plant up close. I am sure you other cats will understand the importance of doing so.
