Photo Hunt - Wind

This photo was taken last October as we readied ourselves for hurricane Sandy.    Dad turned the patio table upside down and weighted it in position with some bags of topsoil.     Audrey was darting around diving into the leaves on the deck, unaware of what was to come.

Lazy Days

We are still waiting for Spring.     We think it got totally lost on the way.

So meantime we are fitting in lots of lying around and napping.    Here are some examples:

 Audrey:

Dad, PLEASE move the pillow! Sheesh, a girl could fall off with this narrow space!

Simba:   If I lie next to the computer, maybe Mom will notice me and give me some treats.   I will make it hard for her to see her papers by lying on them.    And if she types too close to my backside I will swat her hands!

Floofy Friday

This picture was taken on Thursday, the first full day of Spring.    The night before we had some snow, not a lot, but enough to cover the surfaces.     Looks like groundhogs are not very reliable.

Stay warm, all our furry friends.    With all the sadnesses of sick kitties and friends and other kitties we didn't know as well gone running off to the Rainbow Bridge, we hope a new week will bring better news.

Audrey seems to doing okay so far on her thyroid medicine.   She is a little less hyper and her coat looks better.  Mom thinks she may have picked up some weight - hard to tell with a people scale that is only + - 1/2 pound.    She has not yet discovered there is a pill hidden in her pill pockets.

Eric and Splitters

Last night, dear mancat friend of ours, Eric, of Eric and Flynn, flew off to the Rainbow Bridge.  He had not been doing very well, but still this sudden news has been a big shock for so many of his friends in the CB.   Rest in Peace and run free and healthy, Eric.   We send love and purrs to your brother Flynn, and your humans, who love you so very much.

Sweet Splitters of Margs Pets had to be rushed tot he emergency vet during the night, and she is very very sick.     There has been a bad respiratory virus making its way through all the cats who live there, and she has been hit extra badly by it.     Splitters, we will purr hard for you to get well soon and not have to stay too long at the ebil vet place.    Marg, we know how upsetting this is for you.

Happy Easy St Patrick's Day Sunday

Getting our Easy on here at Chez Simba.      No fancy green-trimmed pictures, or St Patty's Day hats (Mom is a lazy, unskilled servant).    But wishing you all Top O the Morning (or afternoon as the case may be).

(this is Audrey's new sleeping position on this chair.  Please forgive Dad's cracker crumbs.)

Photo Hunt - Footprints

The last big snow we had, Dad made great footprints when he was clearing the driveway with the snowblower:

That snow was too deep for us to make footprints in, but when we had a lighter snow + sleet, we did go on the deck and make some footprints in it (at least Audrey did).

Sorry this last one is not in better focus.

Floofy Friday

We wanted to thank everybody who commented about Audrey's hyperthyroidism, and gave input and advice.      We have not managed to get around to visit everybody who left us a comment, but we do appreciate you all.      The humans started Audrey on half the dose of medicine indicated by the Vet man, and so far she is doing fine.    She happily takes her little piece of pill inside a pill pocket (salmon flavor).   We hope she continues to do so and doesn't get wise about it.

Here I am showing off my floofiness.    Mom does wish I would allow them to brush me more, as I have a lot of loose fur, and what doesn't wind up on the floor or furniture ends up in my tummy.  Yesterday I had a big hairball yack up.

A Little Not So Good News

The humans have been noticing that Audrey was losing weight, and yet having an extremely good appetite (she always has loved her fuds).     When she went to the vet in January, he said she seemed overall healthy, and a good weight if he had not known what she weighed when she lived with her first Mom.     He said he thought we should wait before performing blood tests, and to bring her back to have her weight checked in 1-2 months.  Well, when that happened, she had lost a few more ounces, in spite of the humans having increased the amount of her food.   So it was decided to do a full panel of lab work, with the two biggest possibilities being hyperthyroidism and diabetes.

So it turns out Audrey has hyperthyroidism.     Her level of T4 hormone was very high, so the vet said it was not in question.   He told the humans about the various treatment options, and so today she will start on some pills of methimazole to see how she responds.      One of the treatment possibilities is to use radioactive iodine, but the vet said it was a good idea to try the medicine first anyway.  So please have crossed pawsies that she will be a good girl and gobble down some pill pockets as well as she now gobbles down her food.

Any input from furriends who have dealt with this medical issue would be welcomed.   We know it is quite common in older cats about Audrey's age.

An Award and an Idea

Recently, Nerissa of Nerissa's Life gave me an award.   Thank you very much, Nissy!     Personally WE think that YOu are the most brilliant cat blogger we know.

The award is the Blooming Brilliant Blog Award.   It is especially pretty:   see what a pretty badge it has?

In accepting this award, one must do the following:
1) Link back to the blog giving the award.   If you haven't already been reading Nerissa's blog, do go over and get acquainted.  It is such a great blog!

2) Pass the award on to a minimum of four other blogs (I will come to that part at the end).

3) One must answer the following question: "If you had a brilliant idea, what would it be?"

Well, I thought and thought, and knew I could never come up with an idea as brilliant as Nerissa's, which was a Peepdroid, like an android to do all the mundane tasks you human has to do that take time away from you.  However, all us cats would love to be able to serve ourselves our meals, without waiting for the humans.  But the biggest barrier to being able to do that is opening the cans.    So my idea is a machine that would stand on the floor, that a cat could push the can into with its nose.    Then the machine would open the can and push back out the open one.    So if you know any clever engineers who could help out with my idea, please let me know!  We could call it The Independent Cat Feeder.

So now for the hard part, choosing a minimum of four blogs to pass this award on to.   Because all our friends have brilliant blogs,  you can all consider yourselves nominated.  However, just to follow through with the rules of the award, we will nominate the following four:

1) Margs pets:  we are sure with all those animals over there, they have some pretty brilliant ideas
2) Zoey, Wally and Ernie of The Island Cats
3)  Angel and Isabella of Beaded Tail
4)  All the 9 kitties  and doggie at Cory Cat blog.

Photo Hunt - Monochrome

Do you think this is sufficiently monochromatic to qualify?

Don't forget to set your clocks forward tonight, kitties!

As Promised

We will allow the use of our blog for today to let the humans post a picture of The Baby.  Dad got home last night, delayed 2 1/2 hours due to "air traffic control" from the storms in the midwest.    We never got any snow overnight (it was predicted) and had snow quite bit today, but none of it stuck, melting when reaching the ground.

So here she is, in her exersaucer.  That's the best way to get a picture because otherwise she is in constant motion, crawling everywhere and pulling up to stand at the couches.    Even in the exersaucer, she rocks and rolls, making it bounce around.

Easy on Sunday

A little late compared with our furriends, on the Easy Sunday posts.    This is Audrey in her kitchen bed (the one she sleeps in at night).    Pretty comfy cozy.

Mom says she thinks she may have posted the next picture before, but she is too lazy to go back through the posts to check.  Anyway, we much more frequently can be seen together on the couch and now Simba no longer gets antsy when Audrey jumps up next to him.   Mom can't get new pictures since Dad has the camera with him.

Dad is still visiting the Baby.  She is crawling up a storm, all over the place, and pulling up to stand against the furniture.      Today that resulted in a fall and a boo boo on her forehead.     She is rather fearless and doesn't yet know the limits of her ability to balance yet.    Can you believe that she is 10 months old?  We can't.    We'll post some pictures when Dad brings some back next week.
